Vote Yes on Prop. 30, No on Prop. 32!

Jerry Brown: Vote Yes On Proposition 30 It's time to take a stand and get our state back on track. read more HERE.

Stop the Special Exemptions Act: Vote NO on Prop 32!
CEOs and corporate special interests already spend millions trying to influence elections in California -- and now they want Special Exemptions to gain even more power. That's why the Sacramento Bee's Dan Morain said "The 'Stop Special Interest Money Now Act' won't do anything of the kind..." (12/22/11). The so-called "Stop Special Interest Money Now Act" was really intentionally written to allow billionaire businessmen and shady Super PACs to continue spending secret money on elections.  Even worse, it limits the voices of everyday heroes like nurses, teachers and firefighters to speak out on critical issues. Learn more and pledge to Vote NO on Prop 32 HERE.

Watch Ad No On 32: Have You Heard? HERE
Prop 32 claims it will stop campaign spending by special interests, but it exempts those who are funding the campaign. Those special interests will have free reign to give themselves more tax breaks, while the middle class pays the price. Prop 32 is not what it seems.

Oakhurst Non-GMO Dinner and Forum
On Saturday, September 22, 2012 @5:30-7:30PM (Free Forum begins at 6:15PM)
At the Oakhurst Senior Center, 39800 Road 425B, Oakhurst, CA (next to the Oakhurst Community Center)
The Yosemite Area Move to Amend is sponsoring a Dinner and Forum to get the word out about GMOs (genetically modified foods). These changes in our food supply are an example of how some corporations are using corporate money and influence to get what they want at the public's expense.  And, yes, there really is something we can do about it, vote YES on Prop 37! So, you are invited to this Forum with a NON-GMO Dinner cooked by Betty Persson (choice of either organic Chicken or Veggie Dinner). To make the event more fun Jimmy Collier will provide live music, a blend of folk, blues, gospel, country and soul.  Pete Seeger described Jimmy as, "the real thing... he makes music live...." Free program will include short video and discussion. The information we have collected is amazing and useful to your friends and families. Please join us for this fun and informative evening. For more info and to RSVP for Dinner by September 18th (dinner tickets are $8.00) please contact Vic at 559.676.5287 or

VoteVets.org... Don't let them keep troops from voting! The rights of our men and women in uniform are under attack, and something must be done.  This is a very urgent situation, and we need your help. There are dozens of efforts to restrict ballot access, both under consideration and already enacted, which may disenfranchise troops from a number of states, from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin. Citizens, lawmakers, and judges who may consider any legal action against these measures should know how many troops each of these efforts would disenfranchise.  Yet, no comprehensive review of all of these proposed and enacted laws has been done.  It must be. Wonderful news update!

The
Sacramento Bee,
Modesto Bee and the Merced Sun Star Gives Nod to Marc Boyd in Assembly Distict 5!

Three daily McClatchy Company newspapers have endorsed Mark Boyd --the officially endorsed candidate of the California Democratic Party and the California Labor Federation-- as the choice for one of the "Top Two" slots in the primary in Assembly District 5!  Assembly District 5 is located in 9 rural counties of California's Sierra Foothills and ALL of Madera County.

"Marc Boyd of Arnold is by far the stronger of two Democrats in the race. The substitute teacher and former small businessman has the endorsement of the state party and aligns with the governor and the party on many issues. He supports implementation of AB 32 and favors the revised plan for high-speed rail as a landmark investment for the state. [...] Boyd offers a strong contrast and is the second best choice to move forward to the November ballot."
In addtion, Madera County's Sierra Star --a non daily McClatchy Company newspaper in Oakhurst-- published an excellent For Your Consideration article Boyd's New Economy about District 5 Assembly Candidate Marc Boyd!

Please forward this to your friends, co-workers and family and ask them to vote for Marc Boyd! Sign up here to help Marc's campaign today!

Hawaii Verifies Obama’s Birth For Arizona Secretary Of State
A Hawaii official announced late Tuesday that the state gave Arizona’s top elections official the verification he wanted showing President Barack Obama was indeed born there in 1961.The announcement came just hours after Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett
backed away from his threats to keep Obama off the November ballot and apologized for embarrassing his own state with a conspiracy theory-fueled investigation into whether the president was really a natural born U.S. citizen. [...] read full aticle here

Battleground California a project of CADEM

California IS a battleground state.

The right wing's national anti-labor campaign has come to California as wealthy corporate backers push a ballot initiative they claim is about special interests, but in fact is designed to silence the voices of working families here in our state.

Meanwhile, more than a half dozen Republican-held Congressional Districts are up for grabs giving us a once-a-decade opportunity to help Win Back the House and deliver a Democratic Congress that will work with President Obama, not against him.

And thanks to Governor Brown, California is on the road to recovery and with your help we'll elect a true Democratic majority to help overrule do-nothing Republicans in Sacramento.

Join the Battleground California a project of CADEM campaign HERE.

---

Republicans are out to silence working families in California and give Wall Street an all access electoral pass. Fight back! Take part in an upcoming speakers training to 'Stop the Special Exemptions Act".

CDP Speakers Bureau Trainings:  Our allies are putting on workshops around the state to train interested parties from surrounding regions on how to educate the voters in their local areas on the Stop the Special Exemptions Act, (previously referred to as the Corporate Power Grab) - a great training to attend so you are ready to go when the November election cycle begins!

Please promote these workshops in your county committee and clubs and among other interested members of your communities.   Specifically, please outreach to other progressive groups and clubs, as well as organizations in line with our values.  There will be a working families-specific training  available to our friends in labor soon.  This training is more geared towards community partners, but everyone is welcome.

Democratic National Committee Convention (DNCC) September 3-6, 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina

DNCC DELEGATE SELECTION

Reminder from the California Democratic Party!!

The deadline to file as a District-Level Delegate is fast approaching. Democrats have until Wednesday, April 11 to file as a District-Level Delegate (Form A).

As you know, the CDP is responsible to aggressively outreach to each of our Democratic constituents to make sure they realize they have the opportunity to run individuals from their community to become a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, which is set for September 3-6, 2012 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The official plan, adopted by the CDP EBoard and approved by the DNC is on our website (www.cadem.org/delegate2012) and includes links to all the forms (A, B, C), key dates, the number of delegates and alternates allocated per CD (five to eleven) and most importantly our Affirmative Action goals.

There are a total of 611 delegates and 46 alternates for California. On Sunday, April 29, District Caucuses (365 delegates and 34 alternates to be selected) will be held in each CD. Once elected, the delegation meeting is on June 24, where the 61 PLEOs, 121 At-Large Delegates and 12 At-Large Alternates are confirmed.

The presidential campaign has a responsibility and need to do effective outreach, but as you know becoming a delegate via the April 29, 2012 District Caucuses requires foot power, with 100300 of loyal friends showing up and voting for you.

In any correspondence you send out (email or otherwise), please mention the delegate selection process. Please refer people to our Delegate Selection web page.

Keep in mind, that this June, the CDP will allow "no party preference" voters to vote in our June Presidential Primary, but only Democrats can participate in our April 29 caucuses. As in years past, the Republicans will not allow no party preferencevoters to vote in their Presidential Primary.

If you have any questions, please feel free to give Dennis Raj a call at 916-442-5707.

Join the candlelight vigil at the Robert E. Coyle Federal Building, 2500 Tulare Street, Fresno, CA, 93721 (Tulare at O St.) on the second anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC which allows corporations to contribute directly to political campaigns. Move to Amend is calling for an amendment to the constitution to deny “corporate personhood” rights. www.movetoamend.org

“We, the People of the United States of America, reject the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling in Citizens United, and move to amend our Constitution to firmly establish that money is not speech, and that human beings, not corporations, are persons entitled to constitutional rights.”

Actions are planned in 76 cities. Bring a candle and a sign if you can. Sign suggestions: Corporations are NOT people! Money is NOT Speech! Legalize democracy. End Corporate Rule. Move to Amend. Amend the Constitution Third Community Gathering to Limit Corporate Power
Office of Dr. Carl Bosco, Earth, Wind and Solar building, 35788 Highway 41, Coarsegold, CA 93614, Tuesday, Dec. 13th 7 to 9 p.m., Information/directions:  Carl at 760-4199 or Terri at 760-7853

On December 13, Eastern Madera County working with a coalition of local and national groups will host a second Community Gathering to Limit Corporate Power, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the office of Dr. Carl Bosco.  This event is being coordinated with similar events taking place nationwide, for the purpose of building momentum for a Constitutional Amendment to abolish “corporate personhood” and overturn the 2010 Supreme Court decision Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission, which lets unlimited corporate funds flood our election system.

Around the country, support is growing for a constitutional amendment that would clearly state that constitutional protections and civil rights are for natural persons only, not for fictitious “corporate persons.”  On December 6, Los Angeles became the largest of dozens of cities in the United States that have passed resolutions calling for a constitutional amendment that would assert that corporations are not entitled to constitutional rights, and that money is not the same as free speech. The LA City Council vote was unanimous.

Local groups are gathering steam on this issue as well. The first two meetings held in Bass Lake and Coarsegold, drew groups of enthusiastic supporters with many questions.  suggestions and willingness to assume responsibility for limited tasks of their choosing.

The December 13th gathering will feature a Web Cast presentation by Jim Hightower, who has been called “America’s Number One Populist.”  He is a national radio commentator, writer, public speaker and author who “has spent three decades battling the Powers That Be on behalf of the Powers That Ought To Be - consumers, working families, environmentalists, small businesses, and just-plain-folks.”  Time will be scheduled to plan how our local community will participate in nationally coordinated actions in January 2012, to observe the second anniversary of the Citizens’ United decision.

National sponsors include Public Citizen, Move to Amend, People for the American Way, Free Speech for People, and Common Cause.  Background information about Citizens United and the call for a Constitutional Amendment can be found at http://www.democracyisforpeople.org or at http://www.pfaw.org/GovernmentByThePeople.
